Why don't our mobile apps really talk to each other?
If they did, maybe we'd flip between less of them to accomplish simple tasks. Maybe the dialogue would make our phones more aware, more relevant, better at bringing coherence and connection to our lives. In attempt to envision these possibilities with Windows Phone and MS Research, I helped prototype a mobile OS designed to be greater than the sum of its apps.

Mayhem
Automate ALL the things
Mayhem is a sensors-based automation platform designed to have a near-zero learning curve. Users simply connect a Trigger to an ensuing Action, and app does everything else — like send you a text when your cat jumps on your couch, or start playing a song with a faster tempo when more movement is detected. In addition to the default set, users are able to program their own Triggers and Actions and share them with the open-source Mayhem community.

Limoncello
Limoncello, a deep-zoom social stream
Working with Microsoft Live Labs, we set out to design a new aggregated social stream built from the ground up for touch. It utilizes railed zoom/pan and drag/drop gestures for interaction with the content, such as seamlessly starting a Facebook video when the user zooms into its thumbnail. We explored touch interactions within other other visualizers as well, like this location-based view.

Brick Invaders for iOS
Breakout, reloaded
Brick Invaders is a twist on the classic Breakout game. Instead of moving a paddle back and forth, players draw surfaces using touch that bounce the ball and destroy bricks. The Brick Invaders are boss characters who can move all the bricks on their levels, but players get help from random item drops that can power up the ball or bring physics on your side. Two friends in Seattle and I decided to start building Brick Invaders in September, mainly for all of us to experience making an iOS game for the first time.

vBulletin for Web & Mobile
The internet grew up using forums; why didn't they grow up with us?
My role as the solo designer of vBulletin was an all-encompassing one. I signed-on to do a complete redesign of the vBulletin web software, which involved balancing between a ) broadly innovating a product design unaltered since 2006 and b ) considering for the legacy userbase of a platform running the majority of forums from the past decade. After we launched vBulletin 4.0, I helped create the vB Mobile Suite which allowed site owners to deploy custom-branded iPhone apps from our web builder.
